What is your name and what do you do?
Patrick James. I’m a Wedding and Portrait Photographer
Where are you from and how has being there affected your creativity?
I’m from Norfolk, VA. Born and Raised. I’ve always saw creativity around me, so being from this area just helped me refine my skills.
Explain what initially got you into shooting?
Weird story. I initially purchased a camera to start taking pictures of my daughter after she was born. Turning to my younger cousin for help, I finally found how to understand the camera and how it worked. I thought I was then going to just use my new found hobby to capture precious moments. Til this day, I haven’t taken more than 20 images of my daughter on my cameras. She’s 4.
Explain what does an average day look like for you?
Average Day. I’m just your normal everyday FEDEX delivery driver. Long days on road playing a neighborhood classic, Ding Dong Ditch. My business has grown over time to the point where I’m answering emails, making calls, having conferences, and even meetings during my break time. The once I’m done with my route. It time to return home and spend time with my family. After dinner and putting the kids to bed, it’s time to lock myself in my office in front of my computer to catch us on business and editing.
What things do you look at or watch for inspiration?
I’m always watching some sort of tutorials or just seeing inspiration while i’m out. Phlearn, CreativeLive and Live have been my inspirations.
What is a quote or motto that you live by?
“Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do”

Canon 6d, 7d, Sigma 35 Art, Canon 50 1.4, Canon 85 1.8
What do you specialize in or what do you enjoy shooting the most and why?
Wedding Photography. Most see it as stressful, but it’s sort of a peaceful chaos. The joy comes in the end when the client has enjoyed you capturing their wedding and then when they tear up seeing the images that you’ve captured during their day.
Since we believe that music is the center around all things creative, what are your top 3 music albums, and what about those albums that gets you in a creative zone?
Oddly enough, Chance the Rapper, The Coloring Book, has become my go to album. It keeps me in good spirits. Jay-Z Blueprint, Kayne Late Registration, and one left to be filled. I like all kinds of music, so it’s hard to choose.
