What is your name and what do you do?
What’s up I’m Merc (waves) , and I do a lot of things but mostly photography.
Where are you from and how has being there affected your creativity?
I’m from Richmond, VA. . Just being able to go downtown to see murals on buildings, gallery showings, to random alleyways . Also having VCU here I see so many different styles and cultures .
Explain what initially got you into shooting?
Lol….. Back in middle school this Spanish teacher I knew asked me to help with the newspaper and yearbook staff. I told her I didn’t like to write or type, so she told me I had to be the camera man. S/o to Señorita Jones.
Explain what does an average day look like for you?
Hmm for me my days are really random. A average day I’ll head downtown to shoot around a bit. After back to the house to hop on the xbox and relax a bit before I get to the editing.
What things do you look at or watch for inspiration?
I have a thing for foreign films. They inspire me a lot! So raw and gritty.
What camera setup do you currently use (camera, lens, other accessories, etc)?
Canon t3, Gopro Hero3, Canon Rebel X
What do you specialize in or what do you enjoy shooting the most and why?
Gotta say my Gopro shots are my specialty. I enjoy shooting any and everything. For me this is my art form so I don’t like to be trapped in a box.. Learning and trying new things my way.
Since we believe that music is the center around all things creative, what are your top 3 music albums, and what about those albums that gets you in a creative zone?
Oooooo … Andre 3000 / The Love Below .. N.E.R..D. / In Search Of.. Frank Ocean / Channel Orange For one all three of these albums are special. They help me approach things different, from the vibes, sounds, how they were put together,etc. When I get into that creative zone I think about every detail. Everything has to work.
Who are some shooters that you follow and what do you admire about their work?
Folie, Kid Art, and 13th Witness .. I admire the styles but mostly the aesthetics. How they view things no matter how dark it may be.
What is one tangible piece of advice that you would give somebody who has just started shooting?
Keep shooting keep shooting and keep shooting. Its not a race take your time be patience. But most importantly have FUN!
What is next for you?
Traveling, more spicy adventures, and some other things I can’t say lol. Just stay turned.
