What is your name and what do you do?
I’m The Courtney Williams, a professional makeup artist documenting my journey around the world to offer insight and inspiration.

Where are you from and how has being from there affected you?
I was born an raised in Houston Texas! Growing up was far from a cake walk for me, I like to think of it as more of a character building period of time! Those experiences really shaped my work ethic while teaching me how to consistently progress no matter what’s going on!

What were you doing before you started your business and what made you decide to make the switch to work for yourself/ or your present company?
Before I decided to take such a leap of faith I actually was a recent college grad pouring all my energy into building my brand! Needless to say nothing was working and I felt more like I was getting complacent. In the midst of my mini breakdown I had a real honest conversation with myself. It may sound cliche but I honestly answered what would I like to be doing today if I died tomorrow. Within two months I had sold what I could to raise my initial funds and was stepping off my first flight headed to my first photo shoot on this journey!

What made you want to start your business?
I decided to take my makeup skill international because I wanted to see if it was possible, I wanted to live, and if it was I wanted to share the knowledge to those coming from similar backgrounds and interests!

Where did your passion for beauty come from?
Growing up I noticed certain women who had an air about themselves! You know the ones that commanded respect by how they carried and represented themselves? Well rightfully so they inspired me! I would say my passion for makeup began when set out on my own journey to understand my personal essence and beauty!

As a child what did you want to be and why?
As a child growing up and eventually aging out of Cps (child protective services) I literally was living day to day with the goal of surviving! I had no idea of what I would exactly be. Only thing I knew for sure was that I didn’t want my life to be at the mercy of another, I wanted to ultimately hold the power of how I moved forward. I wanted to own my own business!

What has helped your business get to where you at now?
It’s perceptive that has opened me up to so much growth and truly gotten me to this point! As the saying goes “When you know better, you do better” I’m so thankful for all the people who have been sent to me with the purpose of planting a seed! Honestly I can travel back in my mind to specific times that shifted my perceptive and opened it to more! Those moments were vital for me! I’ve always been fighting for more but it was those special moments that either gave me the confidence to try, believe that I deserved it, or gave me insight on how to take the initial steps.

“I Would Tell My Younger Self To Hold Her Head Higher, Love Herself More, To Embrace All That She Is Because Girl You Are The Bomb!

What does an average day look like for you?
Mainly I try to stay organized and take consistent steps towards whatever the goal is for that day, week, or so on. Honestly from the moment I sold it all to each day I’ve had since taking that first step off the plane none of my days have looked the same! I really believe in going with the flow and embracing this journey I’m on in it’s entirety!

What has been a tangible hack or a short cut that has helped you get to where you are at now?
The best hack that I use is simple, face my fears! I believe that when growth is required it’s only natural that you become scared. Whenever it’s time to make a decision or overcome an obstacles I always try to focus and head down the path that seems most frightening to me. I realized that what may seem like fear could actually be a sign of excitement! Whether fear or excitement I believe both emotions act as a blueprint leading you closer to your milestones and things you need to achieve.

What has been one of the biggest struggles that you have faced in your business?
My biggest struggle is my tendency to be a perfectionist. I’m learning that everything is not always going to line up to the proper dots and that’s okay all I can do is try the best I can and adjust as needed!

What is one tangible piece of advice that you would give someone who wants to be where you are at?
Ohhhh I would say don’t be scared to jump, stop waiting, and embrace the fact that you will need to be the janitor and the CEO to get you business growing! If you don’t know how to do something and you can’t pay to get it done, find a YouTube video with directions or do a google search! Either way there’s to much information surrounding us to wait on anyone to care about the growth of your business like you!

Random: If you could go back 10 years and give your younger self advice, what advice would you give?
I would tell my younger self to hold her head higher, love herself more, to embrace all that she is because girl you are the bomb! There is absolutely no other like you and that within it self is magical! Even if it’s hard to grasp at first you are wonderfully made and exactly where you are meant to be!

What is next for yourself?
Taking my journey to YouTube is next for me! I’m really excited to connect and provide more insight and inspiration!
